A rare & breathtaking mid 18th Century French walnut commode Arbalette or chest of drawers circa 1750-1780. A shaped moulded top rests on the most spectacular serpentine front with the original brass handles and key escutcheons. The four drawers are framed by canted sides, resting on cabriolet feet. Drawers glide well for its age with slight sticking on bottom drawer.
Commodes en arbalete are quite rare given the exceptional skill that was required at the time to handcarved the shape out of walnut. These commodes were often the showpiece and placed in the main room of the residence.
